Description

This short suite for brass quartet, in a baroque style, was written by Steve Robson in the early months of 2004 and premiered on 3rd July 2004 at St Thomas Church Stanhope.

The composition was in response to a fund-raising initiative to raise money for the restoration of the church clock –  an appeal was made in the Weardale Gazette newspaper for sponsors of the 5 individual movements:

  • Introduction
  • Chaconne
  • Fugue
  • Interlude
  • Gigue

The appeal was a success with each movement receiving financial support from local contributors. A dedication to each supporter is included in the score for posterity of a rather unique combination of music-making and fund-raising.

Written for 2 x Bb Cornet, Bb Euphonium and Eb Bass.
