‘A Manchester Tale’ depicts life in the City of Manchester in the years surrounding the Second World War and the effect these years had on the citizens of Manchester. Towards the end of the piece there is an optional part for a wartime siren which announces the start of an air raid attack.

This piece won the prize for the best new arrangement at ‘Spennymore’ in 2000, Played by the Grimethorpe Colliery Band Conducted by Garry Cutt, and has been recorded by the Sellers Band, on ‘Celtic Connections’.
